We’re not your typical college advisors.
We’re experts at helping dancers apply and get accepted
at college BFA/BA dance programs
how we help your student major with a BFA/BA in dance:
Our expert dance professionals evaluate your student’s dance style
Each student will submit up to 10 minutes of individual video in various dance styles for professional evaluation and feedback. This evaluation serves multiple purposes:
- It provides the Dance into College counselors and staff with a better understanding of your technique level, style, strengths and weaknesses to better advise you, particularly when building a prospective college list.
- It offers you un-biased feedback on strengths and areas for improvement. While not all feedback is glowing, it is an honest appraisal to encourage your growth as a dancer and improve the chances for success when applying to college dance programs.
We make sure not only all college applications details are handled on time, but also all dance program related requirements, too
With audition-based dance programs, applying to college is just step one. Dance programs often require an additional, completely separate application and supplemental materials such as photos, a dance resume, video submissions, etc.
Unfortunately, each college has their own requirements and timeline. We take HOURS of research out of your hands and create a dance requirements and dance application activities timeline tool keep it all visible.
We’ll create a college dance resume designed specifically for admissions
The college dance resume is unique in many respects. It is not a professional dance resume or even what you’ve used for summer intensives. With our dance questionnaire, we’ll collect the relevant information and format your resume.
We help your dancer with dance applications & artistic statements
We’ll get your Common Application ready to submit, and each college supplemental essay(s) completed. Now, we tackle the dance application essays and artistic statements. We apply essay topic strategies throughout the application to ensure you’re building a complete story of you and not creating a completely dance-centric narrative.
On average, Dance into College’s staff spends more than 40 hours providing personalized research, organization, communication and coaching to each two and three year comprehensive dance package client.
And here’s everything we do to support dancers through the college prep and application process.
Our Comprehensive Dance Major Package is offered from 10th-12th grade and guides families through the the academic choices and dance training decisions in preparation for college applications AND dance program applications and auditions.
JUNIOR & Sophomore YEARs
New Student Intake
Each student is unique, and we want to learn all about them! By collecting high school transcripts and test scores we learn about the academic side of the student, but we also ask students and parents to complete a questionnaire to get all of the background information about the student, their activities and their challenges and successes to help inform our guidance.
High School Course Selection
Regardless of your intended major, maximizing your education in high school makes a strong college prospect. We help you balance course rigor with a packed dance schedule to meet your educational goals.
Major & Career Counseling
We use assessments to identify personal strengths and weaknesses that can guide a student toward a career that suits them, and then we look at how to evaluate colleges based on course of study and majors.
Extracurricular Selection & Activity
While students often start exploring activities early in high school, it’s important that the activities are focused and intentional in the junior and senior year. In particular, we advise students on the best summer activities to enhance their activities resume.
Nothing has become more unclear in college admissions than the use of test scores in admissions. The pandemic escalated the trend toward test-optional admission policies, but it’s not always clear when to submit test scores. We help students create testing strategy to cover a range of scenarios.
Custom College List
We create a recommended list of up to 10 colleges/universities for your student to consider based on a balance of reach, match, and likely acceptance schools. This includes relevant statistics and data about each college and a customized write-up about the student’s academic and extracurricular areas of interest at each college.
Choosing recommenders is not easy, but there are best-practices. We guide student through the selection process and provide an approach that will give recommenders plenty of food for thought as they start the writing process.
College Visit Coaching
College is 4-years of your life! We help students approach each college visit as an “interview” of the college. Students will learn the do’s and don’ts of college visits, where to look to gain a deeper understanding of the student experience and the optimal times to visit. In the end, a few colleges stay on the short-list.
Finalizing the College List
Students have done their college research and with 11th-grade transcripts and standardized test scores becoming more clear, we help students refine their final college list. The number of colleges on the list takes into consideration many factors.
The college essay is where your student stands apart from another. We guide the student through writing a Common Application personal statement essay and/or college supplemental essay and help them with discussion and critique until it is ready to submit.
Some colleges and scholarships have interview opportunities, yet high school students have little experience. Students shine in their interview with our interview prep and presentation guidance.
Applications, Deadlines & Task Management
The application process can be overwhelming. Each school has it’s own requirements and keeping track of each required and optional supplement material is not easy. Each comprehensive student has access to College Planner Pro, an online planning portal where counselor and student communicate and project manage the application process.
The Cost of College and Financial Aid Resources
Everyone wants to minimize the cost of college, but evaluating the value of what each college offers for the money is essential. We advise families on the basics of of financial aid and where to look for scholarships.
Working the College Decisions Results & Final Selection
Accepted, Deferred, Denied or Waitlist. Each decision that comes back has a set of next steps. Sometimes, students want to change course and apply to additional schools until finally, a student will evaluate the final acceptances, financial aid packages and make their final decision. We coach the family throughout the process.
Dance into College Alumni Spotlight – Travon Carter
Travon started working with Dance into College after he had disappointing results when applying to dance programs his senior year of high school. His lack of guidance on the college application and audition process left him with few college options, and none to major in dance. But his story is remarkable.
Travon had only three years of dance training going into his senior year of high school. While he made incredible progress with his technique at Dancers Edge and Edge Performing Arts in Winston-Salem, NC, he did not understand how to pick college dance programs that would be a good fit for him academically, for dance, and financially.
Travon opted to take a gap year and do a college application “do-over”. With Dance into College’s guidance, Travon created a new, broader college list focusing on financial affordability. During his gap year, he worked full-time and continued his training in the studio. Dance into College helped Travon create an application narrative that focused on his life challenges, academic achievements, enormous growth in dance technique and future potential as a dance professional. We prepared Travon for each stage in the process including interview preparation.
Travon currently attends the University of Southern California Glorya Kaufman School of Dance as a BFA dance major. He received dance and academic scholarships from multiple universities. In his freshman year at USC, he was only one of two freshmen to be selected for one of the spring dance pieces.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the 2-year and 3-year dance packages?
By starting in the sophomore year of high school, the dancer gets an earlier glimpse into all of the possibilities their education and career can hold. We provide academic course counseling to ensure classes line up with their education goals and make for a strong college applicant. Additionally, with a dance evaluation in the sophomore year, we can provide insights on technique, training and areas of improvement in time for dancers to hone their talent before college auditions. While we do this at a more rapid pace in the junior year as well, having the extra meeting time allows students and parents to get their questions answered, easy into the college application process and have more intention in their decisions.
Do you offer a senior-year only package?
At this time, we do not. Preparing comprehensively for a college dance major application requires a significant amount of time; it’s difficult to accomplish in the first 6 months of senior year, and can be quite stressful for dancers at this late stage. We do offer the 2-year program, done on an accelerated pace, if started by April of junior year with the understanding that the student will spend considerable amount of time on their college application preparations.
To support seniors, we do offer the following services:
8-hour “a-la-carte” dancer advising package for counseling meetings, college list building, essay assistance, etc. ($1,200)
5-hour Common Application Personal Statement Essay Coaching ($550)
Custom packages designed for specific needs – priced individually
Dance resumes for college applications ($150)
Dance Reel – reel editing for social media ($150)
